A Letter from Tom Stader

Hello everyone,

It’s been a long time since the last Nomadic Marketing newsletter. Almost a year has gone by. During that time many things have happened, and I hope to summarize everything quickly with this short update.

So, let’s begin by talking about the bad news first: Back in March of 2005, Nomadic Marketing went broke. In hindsight, I realize that this was inevitable. Relying 100% on donations was just not realistic. So when March came around, and our bank account went dry, I took a job in Saigon, Vietnam. At that time I began running Nomadic in the evenings. This allowed me to replenish my personal bank account, along with giving me the time to reflect on what had happened and form a plan as to where I would like to take Nomadic into the future.

A viable plan did not come to me quickly, and eventually Nomadic went on a short sabbatical.

It took about a year and a move to China to realize Nomadic had changed by itself. Today I have a job in China doing marketing at a small company. In the evenings I work on Nomadic projects. These projects can range from doing a website update for an organization in Cambodia to creating an Annual Report for a charity in Namibia.

So, not much has not changed: Nomadic is still the same charity organization we were before - we have just slowed down a little bit. Today, we don’t have the goal of working with a set number of organizations in one year. (Our previous goal was to work with 24 charities within one year, and by the time we went broke we had worked with 28 charities! Impressive!)

Financially speaking, Nomadic is doing much better today than a year ago. Not great, but much better. We now have a steady flow of cash coming in from doing work with companies based out of America. This has made us cash positive, which is great news. The companies that we work with tend to be looking for a marketing firm that “gives something back” to the world in a positive manner. We charge our clients a competitive rate for our services and when we are on our downtime, we provide marketing assistance to our network of charities. As far as I know, we are the only marketing firm in the world that gives back over 50% of our wealth and effort to charity. That is something that I am very proud of, and with continued help and support hope to be able to continue to do.

Looking back over the past year I can easily say it has had its ups and downs. With that said, there is only one thing that I regret not doing and that would have been to communicate better what was happening at Nomadic over this past year. For that I offer my apology to all out there that have helped so generously to support Nomadic in so many ways.

Expect to hear from Nomadic in the near future about some projects we are cooking up. As I said above, we will not be trying to break any records this year. Instead we’ll be focusing on providing quality marketing assistance to a select few organizations and companies that need some help getting a charity project off the ground. This will be an exciting year, not because of the numbers, but because of the small difference we’ll be making around the world.

If you have any questions or comments, please send me an email at tom@nomadicmarketing.com. It would be great to hear from you!

Have a great day!

Sincerely,
Thomas Stader
