The Si Qing Elementary School is located about an hour from the city center of Xi’an, in the ShaanXi Province.

There are over 200 students in grades 1-6 that attend the Si Qing Elementary School.  This school is one of five elementary schools in the area that The Library Project will be providing libraries to.

The Si Qing Elementary School is a Focus School. A Focus School is a school that will be experiencing an increase in attendance because of school consolidations and closures in the area. It is estimated that the attendance will jump to well over 500 students in the next couple of years. To accommodate for this jump in student numbers they are building an extension to their school and dormitories for the children that live a great distance from the school.

The Si Qing Elementary School has an incredible group of teachers and administrators. The Principle has over the past few years invested in a few books for their small library, but because of the schools projected growth he was not able to purchase the subjects and quantity of books he would like to offer his students.

The Si Qing Elementary School also suffered from another fact: that the school library was in a small room the size of a walk in closet. The classrooms are the most accommodating places for large numbers of children to read books. With that being said, the teachers have had difficulty bring books into the classrooms for the children to read. This is because there has not been a place for the books to be kept in each classroom.

On October 31, 2007 The Library Project provided four sturdy wooden bookshelves for the seven classrooms at the Si Qing Elementary School. Along with providing a globe and plants for each classroom, we also upgraded their collection of books with 500 hi-quality children's books in the Chinese language.

The Library Project made a clear IMPACT in the quality of education that the administration are able to provide for the children that attend at Si Qing Elementary School. Games, arts and crafts, and introducing the administration to their new library are just a few ways that we were a positive impact on the lives of the children at Si Qing Elementary School. This impact will be seen for year to come through the use of their library on a daily basis, but also through the positive impact that our volunteers made while donating the library.
